COFFEE FELLOWSHIP (Heavenly Grounds Parlor)

The most wonderful gift of all is the gift of friendship! You are cordially invited to the parlor for coffee and refreshments from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM each Sunday.

FELLOWSHIP TEAM

The Fellowship Team of Vandalia UMC serves the church and its members by providing fellowship events, which are not provided by other ministries. They work with the other ministry teams and the church staff to plan and implement specific fellowship events that help carry out the vision and mission of the congregation.

Examples of events that may be planned by the Fellowship Team are:  Birthday party for Jesus, fellowship lunches/dinners, camping week-ends, church picnic, homecoming, baseball games, ice cream socials, mother/daughter banquet, etc.

Events that the Fellowship Team would not be involved in are Pastor Appreciation Day sponsored by the SPPRC, Air Fair Parade sponsored by the Evangelism Team, flea markets sponsored by the Ladies Ministry and Troopers Sunday School class, Wednesday evening events sponsored by the Children and Youth ministries and Education Team, Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Seekers Sunday School class, and events scheduled by various church organizations for the Hunger Challenge.

The following are events managed by other teams that will continue as is:

The Pastor Appreciation Day sponsored by the SPPRC, the Air Fair Parade sponsored by the Evangelism Team, flea markets sponsored by the Ladies Ministry and the Troopers Sunday School class, Wednesday evening events sponsored by the Children and Youth ministries and the Education Team, the Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Seekers Sunday School class, and the various events scheduled by various church organizations for the Hunger Challenge.

Get Well Cards and Bud Vases

Catherine Treiber, a member of the Memorial Committee, has been responsible for delivering bud vases to those who have been hospitalized and sending cards to the sick for several years. She has been incapacitated for five months and Barbara Kimmel and Martha and Ed Puterbaugh are taking her place until she recuperates. They all have done an excellent job.

Sunday Bulletin Delivery & Home Touch Ministries

We like to keep in touch with members of our church who are now residing in Retirement Homes, Rest Homes, or Assisted Living Homes. In addition to receiving our Sunday bulletins, we send a page called Home Touch which includes a story and puzzle activities to those who enjoy it.

STEWARDSHIP TEAM

Our ministry works toward helping our members grow in their faith response to God by the giving of their time and money. Our meetings are from early fall to December. Members of our group are appointed by the Lay Leadership Team; however, adults who have an interest in serving on the Stewardship Team are welcome to sit in on our meetings.

STEWARDSHIP TEAM EXPECTATIONS

The basic responsibilities of the Stewardship team are:

  • To vigorously resist the perception that the sole task of the ministry area of stewardship is to conduct an annual giving campaign. There is nothing wrong with having an annual giving campaign or in directing one. In fact, an annual giving campaign is one of the team’s responsibilities, but stewardship is far more than an annual campaign. It is a year-round task. In addition to money, Christian stewardship also includes prayer, time and talents.

Your main responsibilities include the following:

  • Plan and promote a comprehensive year-round agenda for developing Christian stewards. This may include stewardship education, gifted-ness, ecological stewardship, proportionate giving and tithing, guiding an annual giving campaign, planned giving, personal financial management, and developing a Christian lifestyle.
  • Interpret the biblical and theological basis for Christian stewardship using resources consistent with the doctrines and polity of The United Methodist Church. An excellent foundational resource is Steward, a twelve-session study available from Cokesbury.
  • Promote spending, saving, investing, and giving consistent with a Christian lifestyle. Invite persons in our congregation to explore tithing (giving 10 per cent) and encourage them to set the tithe as the minimum goal for their giving.
  • Create, within the congregation, a deepening commitment to personal and corporate Christian stewardship, which includes taking care of the creation as well as using and sharing talents and resources.
  • Work with the finance team in our church. Encourage them to review their processes so that the financial aspects of the church are growing more consistent with faithful stewardship theology and practice. Encourage processes that build accountability and trust.
  • Be a member of the church council and faithfully attend scheduled meetings.  Appoint a representative to attend if the team leader cannot be there.
  • Prepare a presentation of current year achievements and plans for the upcoming year for presentation at the church council’s annual strategic planning meeting
