ADULT BELL CHOIR

We meet for practice in the Bell Room, on Wednesday evenings, from 6:25 to 7:25; set-up begins at 6:15 PM our normal performance schedule is to play once a month between September and May.

ADULT CHANCEL CHOIR

The adult choir rehearses each Wednesday, in the Sanctuary, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM we sing Sunday mornings and for special services. This group sings from September through May and is open to high school through adults with a “song in their heart”

LITTLE LAMBS CHOIR (Ages: Toddlers – Pre-K)

Toddlers sing and ring our primary colored hand bells in Worship Services during the school year. Our Little Lambs learn Bible stories and prayers through music. The Little Lambs of Vandalia UMC take their role in worship very seriously. They work hard and enjoy performing for the congregation. Throughout the school year we meet every Sunday in the Children’s Choir Room (next to the nursery). This takes place as part of our Junior Church ministry and there is ample room for more toddlers in our Little Lambs choir. We reconvene on September 13.

SHINING LIGHTS CHILDREN'S CHOIR (Ages: K-4th grade)

Young children (through 4th grade) have the opportunity to sing once a month during a Worship Service. This Shining Lights Children’s Choir is blessed to have a complete 3 octave set of Malmark hand chimes, electronic Yamaha keyboard and an electronic drum set at its disposal. With all of these tools available to them, members of the Shining Lights Children’s Choir can receive individual attention as well as teamwork performance skill development. The main focus is to proclaim the good news of God’s grace through song, hand motions and other Biblical expressions of young faith. We meet every Sunday as part of our Junior Church ministry in the Children’s Choir Room (next to the nursery). The Worship Committee slates this group to perform the 3rd Sunday of EVERY month throughout the school year.  The Shining Lights Choir has ample room for additional happy, eager-to-learn K-4th graders. And even ample patience and support for us to be able to work with the “not so happy ones”.  Children's Choirs participate from September - May. They will reconvene on September 13, 2009

YOUTH CHOIR -- JOHN WESLEY RINGERS/SINGERS (Ages: 5th-8th grade)

Choristers in 5th – 8th grades come together to ring worship appropriate pieces. We are members of the National Choristers Guild and incorporate many of their new works published right here in Dayton OH at Lorenz Publishing. We sight read, work on group performances and rhythm skills.  We take time to share prayers, concerns and joys.  Pictured above the title of this group is John Wesley as a Circuit Riding Preacher.  He methodically shared the message of Jesus Christ, our Savior, throughout the world.  Paul Maranka has shared “The Life of John Wesley” with this group on several occasions so they may understand our history.

Children who are in grades 5th – 8th also come together and sing…traditional as well as new church music. The youth begin to take leadership roles in helping younger singers and instrumentalists. We work on reading skills and conveying Bible studies through music and skits. We work in conjunction with the Education Team tying in our United Methodist church calendar. We rehearse Sunday mornings after Worship Service (normally from 11:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.).  Opportunities for narrating, vocal solos, instrumental solos/duets/combos and piano accompanying are based upon musical ability and desire. We have room for more youth age musicians in John Wesley Singers.  It helps to be able to read music as we are blessed with a core of young proficient musicians; however, Susan Trissell will work with youth who do not yet know how to read music. Children's Choirs participate from September - May. They will reconvene on September 13, 2009
